Okay guys nothing annoys me more than seeing the grey box in posts on tumblr. So I’ve put together a quick guide on how to upload pics/gifs to tumblr without the grey box.
EDIT: TUMBLR HAS CHANGED HOW TO GET RID OF THE GREY BOX. THIS TUTORIAL IS UPDATED FOR THE NEW CHANGES.
Text posts are simple.
When reblogging/posting click the Upload Image button and select your picture/gif you want to use.
And then post it!
Don’t use the html option unless you have a basic understanding of html coding, and Upload Image is simpler and faster.
Putting pictures/gifs on photos requires a little more effort, but is quite simple.
Select the Insert/Edit Image option.
It’ll come up with these options.
You need to put the URL of an image/gif.
The best way to do this is have a tumblr link of your picture.
If you’re using somebody else’s gif/picture right click on the gif/image from tumblr and select “Copy Image URL”.
If you’re uploading your own gif/image, open up a new tab and in tumblr upload it as a photo. Save it to your drafts and then take the URL.
To save opening up new tabs and copying links all the time you can copy the links of your gifs/pictures and save them to your favourites on your web browser; it will be much more efficient.
You should have a URL like this. If you have another type of link, try copying the image URL again. Links outside of tumblr can give grey boxes.
Before you click insert there is one more step.
You need to remove the number and full stop after the http//: and before media.tumblr.com
THIS IS THE OLD METHOD.
THE NEW METHOD REQUIRES THAT YOU REMOVE THE NUMBER BEFORE THE MEDIA.TUMBLR (as before) BUT REPLACE IT WITH 31
SO IT WILL READ HTTP:31.MEDIA.TUMBLR.COM
Once you have done that, you can insert the image and post it without a grey box showing. (:
If this was helpful for you, please reblog! Pass the word around! Please!
If you have any more questions or want me to clarify something, send me an ask. (:
